Rafael’s Spike and IAI’s Harop serve different roles. Spike is a family of guided missiles launched from land, air or naval platforms, depending on the variant. Harop is a canister-launched loitering munition: it flies over a designated area, uses an electro-optical seeker to locate and identify targets, and can be directed to attack under remote human supervision.
Spike: a guided missile family
Spike variants have different ranges, launch platforms and guidance features. Rafael’s published material describes electro-optical guidance and variants that can transmit video and support operator updates during flight. This allows the crew to assess the scene and, for supported variants, adjust engagement decisions. Specifications for one Spike model should not be applied to every member of the family.
Harop: loiter, identify, engage
IAI describes Harop as combining features of a UAV and missile. It is intended to search an assigned area for high-value targets, including air-defense systems, command posts and vehicles. Its published product page lists nine hours of endurance and says it is remotely supervised with a human in the loop; an operator may abort the mission. IAI also says the system is designed to operate despite GNSS jamming.
The useful distinction is in the mission profile: Spike is a missile fired toward a target with variant-specific guidance; Harop is a loitering weapon that searches before a selected attack. Harop’s human supervision does not mean it independently chooses any target without operator control.
