Interceptions Over Riyadh and the Eastern Province
Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed multiple projectiles launched by the Houthis targeting Riyadh and the kingdom's Eastern Province, Saudi authorities announced on Sunday morning.
Official statements reported that air defense systems destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis toward the capital, Riyadh, on Sunday morning. The interception of those two ballistic weapons took place shortly after authorities issued two early warning alerts regarding potential danger in the Riyadh and Najran regions. Following that incident, Saudi officials announced that air defense batteries intercepted and destroyed a Houthi cruise missile that had also been launched toward the Riyadh region.
Targeting Major Urban and Industrial Centers
The morning operations in the capital followed hours after the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen confirmed intercepting and destroying a ballistic missile launched by the Yemeni Iran-allied Houthi group toward the eastern part of the kingdom.
Emergency warning protocols were also enacted across the wider Al-Ahsa governorate before civil defense officials assessed the situation and declared that the immediate danger had passed throughout all of the alerted eastern municipalities.
Repeated Cross-Border Aerial Attacks
The Sunday salvos followed defensive engagements recorded the preceding night across other areas of Saudi Arabia. On Saturday evening, Saudi authorities reported that defense units intercepted and destroyed a drone in the Makkah region. In addition, defense systems intercepted and destroyed two Houthi ballistic missiles launched toward the southern region of Najran, with authorities reporting that shrapnel fell to the ground as a result of the mid-air destruction of the two missiles.
