Terrorism Threats

As Israel prepares to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland (May 5–18, 2025), there has been a dramatic escalation in direct security threats targeting the Israeli delegation. Multiple extremist networks aligned with Hamas, including groups within the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement and its cultural arm PACBI, have issued explicit death threats and called for terrorist attacks against Israeli representatives attending the event.

Issued: May 8, 2025

  • Prime Targets: International events like Eurovision, with high media visibility, are considered prime targets by terror networks. Groups named as active threats include Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah, and global jihadist organizations.
  • Recent Trends: Since the Swords of Iron War (October 2023), dozens of attempted attacks against Israelis and Jews abroad have been thwarted.
  • Local Context: Switzerland has witnessed over 360 anti-Israel protests in the past year—these are expected to intensify during Eurovision, with direct threats against the Israeli representative and delegation.
  • Vulnerability: Supporters of terrorism could use large gatherings or protests as cover to carry out planned or spontaneous attacks.

NSC Recommendations for Israelis:

  • Avoid large, Israeli-linked gatherings lacking security.
  • Steer clear of protests/demonstrations.
  • Closely follow local security instructions, report hostile activity.
  • Keep emergency contact information (medical, security, Israeli embassy) readily available.
  • Remain highly alert; avoid disclosing travel plans or location on social media.
  • Do not display Israeli or Jewish symbols in public.
  • Refrain from discussing military/service or sensitive security topics, both in-person and online.
  • Download the Israeli Home Front Command app for real-time alerts (iOS / Android).

Coordinated Threats and Planned Protests

Extremist organizations openly aligned with Hamas and Iran’s terror axis are actively inciting and calling for targeted violence against the Israeli Eurovision delegation. Intelligence assessments indicate that mass protests are being meticulously planned throughout the host city, with clear involvement from Iran-linked and BDS-affiliated groups. These demonstrators are expected to escalate their actions beyond protest, with some participants intent on violence, including potential attempts to kidnap or assassinate members of the Israeli delegation. It is important to understand that these threats are not random acts of hostility; rather, they represent calculated, cross-border intimidation efforts that directly mirror the tactics historically deployed by Hamas, Iran, and their network of proxies on the global stage.

Security Response

In light of these coordinated threats, the Israeli delegation is being safeguarded by a comprehensive, multi-layered security strategy. This protection includes the involvement of local Swiss law enforcement, specialized private security personnel, and Israeli security operatives—among them, highly-trained Mossad agents working on the ground. The entire operation is underpinned by real-time intelligence gathering and constant threat monitoring, ensuring the delegation’s movements are continually assessed for risk. Robust emergency protocols, including rapid response and evacuation plans, are in place should a situation escalate unexpectedly. Throughout the event, close coordination between Israeli security services and Swiss authorities guarantees a state of heightened vigilance and readiness to neutralize any threat.

Context and Root Causes

The current surge in threats and incitement is being driven by the so-called “pro-Palestine” movement, which frequently operates as a public relations and activism arm for Iran’s wider agenda of regional terrorism. Organizations such as BDS and PACBI portray themselves as civil rights or cultural advocacy groups, yet in reality, they repeatedly offer political and strategic cover to those who glorify or perpetrate violence against Jews and Israelis across the globe. Since October 7, 2023, Iran and its network of proxies—including Hamas and Hezbollah—have openly exhorted supporters to carry out attacks on Jewish and Israeli targets, both in Europe and worldwide; these efforts are often reinforced by advocacy networks and “activist” organizations that help coordinate both public incitement and logistical support for potential attackers.
