# Haredi IDF Service Tracks and Religious Accommodations

*The IDF offers dedicated service frameworks with rules for religious practice, gender arrangements, and command structures. Eligibility is assessed individually, and accommodations vary by track.*

The IDF has dedicated service tracks for recruits who identify as Haredi and meet the military’s eligibility criteria. The current framework distinguishes three models—Magen, Herev and David—with different arrangements for gender separation and unit composition. The applicable rules describe accommodations; they do not guarantee every preference in every assignment.

## Three dedicated frameworks

Under the General Staff order published in 2026, **Magen** provides a gender-separated team. **Herev** places the full framework, such as a battalion, in a gender-separated setting; combat commanders are generally expected to be religious or Haredi, with defined exceptions. **David** places soldiers in a unit where all personnel, including commanders, observe a religious way of life; the Manpower Directorate approves units individually.

The order covers accommodations including kosher food, prayer and Torah study, gender arrangements, appearance and spiritual guidance. It also states that commanders must respect the religious practice of Haredi soldiers while maintaining the rights of other personnel. A recruit or serving soldier can request a dedicated track, but must identify as Haredi, live an observant Haredi lifestyle, pass an interview and meet that track’s admission requirements. The [IDF’s announcement of the three tracks](https://www.idf.il/330023) summarizes their structures; the [the published service order](https://www.idf.il/%D7%90%D7%AA%D7%A8%D7%99-%D7%99%D7%97%D7%99%D7%93%D7%95%D7%AA/%D7%90%D7%AA%D7%A8-%D7%94%D7%A4%D7%A7%D7%95%D7%93%D7%95%D7%AA/%D7%A4%D7%A7%D7%95%D7%93%D7%95%D7%AA-%D7%9E%D7%98%D7%9B-%D7%9C/%D7%9E%D7%A0%D7%94%D7%9C%D7%AA-%D7%9B%D7%95%D7%97-%D7%90%D7%93%D7%9D-%D7%AA%D7%A0%D7%95%D7%A2%D7%94-31/09-%D7%A9%D7%99%D7%A8%D7%95%D7%AA-%D7%97%D7%A8%D7%93%D7%99%D7%9D/310902-%D7%A9%D7%99%D7%A8%D7%95%D7%AA-%D7%91%D7%A0%D7%99-%D7%94%D7%A6%D7%99%D7%91%D7%95%D7%A8-%D7%94%D7%97%D7%A8%D7%93%D7%99-%D7%91%D7%A6%D7%94-%D7%9C/) gives the detailed rules.

## Units and older programs

Netzah Yehuda is the Haredi battalion in the Kfir Brigade, according to the IDF’s brigade listing. It is one example of a combat framework associated with Haredi service, not a synonym for all dedicated service. The IDF’s current order sets broader tracks across the military, and unit conditions depend on the approved framework and assignment. [The Kfir Brigade’s official page](https://www.idf.il/en/mini-sites/kfir-brigade/) lists Netzah Yehuda among its battalions.

Dedicated frameworks are designed to let soldiers serve while observing religious practice. Men seeking an available path should confirm current openings, entry conditions and service terms with the IDF recruitment office; the military can assign recruits outside a dedicated track when they do not qualify or choose another framework.
