# Elbit IronVision and F-35 Helmet Displays

*IronVision gives armored-vehicle crew members a camera-based view of the surroundings while buttoned up. Elbit’s F-35 helmet display instead presents flight data and sensor imagery to a pilot as part of the aircraft’s avionics.*

IronVision and the F-35 helmet-mounted display both use head-mounted display technology, but they serve different crews and systems. IronVision presents external vehicle camera imagery and mission data to armored-vehicle crew members. The F-35 display supplies a pilot with flight information, symbology and aircraft sensor imagery.

## IronVision for armored vehicles

Elbit says IronVision uses exterior cameras to create a view of the vehicle’s surroundings for crew members operating with hatches closed. Its display can present a conformal image with symbology and C4I data, and the video source can be switched to weapon sights, unmanned-aircraft video or simulation. This addresses the restricted view from inside an armored vehicle, but a camera system cannot guarantee a complete view under every condition.

## F-35 helmet display for pilots

Elbit says the F-35 Helmet Mounted Display is supplied by Rockwell Collins Elbit Vision Systems, a joint venture between Elbit Systems and Rockwell Collins. It combines day or night video imagery with flight symbology and uses the F-35 avionics architecture. The display provides the pilot a virtual head-up display, so the aircraft does not need a conventional fixed HUD.

The distinction is functional: IronVision helps vehicle crews see outside a closed armored hull; the F-35 system serves as the pilot’s integrated flight and sensor display. Neither claim establishes zero latency or perfect visibility in every operating environment.
