# Fauda and Tehran: Israeli dramas on global platforms

*Fauda reached international viewers through Netflix, while Tehran combined Apple TV+ distribution with a 2021 International Emmy win for Drama Series. Both are Israeli originals.*

*Fauda* and *Tehran* reached international audiences as Israeli-made series distributed by global streaming services. Netflix carries *Fauda*, created by Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, while Apple TV+ launched *Tehran* globally after its Israeli broadcast debut. The two shows use espionage and covert operations as thriller frameworks, but place Israeli characters and production teams at the center of the stories.

## Fauda moved from Israeli television to Netflix

*Fauda* follows Doron Kavillio, an Israeli operative who returns to undercover work, and the unit working with him. Lior Raz, who plays Doron, co-created the series with journalist Avi Issacharoff. The [Netflix listing](https://www.netflix.com/title/80113612?source=35) identifies both creators and presents the program in its Israeli television and thriller collections. It offers multiple seasons, trailers and episodes through the service, making the Hebrew-language production available beyond its original Israeli audience.

The show’s ensemble includes Itzik Cohen and Hisham Suliman alongside Raz. Its scenes move between Hebrew and Arabic, reflecting the languages used by characters in its Israeli security setting. That bilingual format gives overseas viewers a story that retains its local context rather than recasting it for an American setting. [The Times of Israel’s report on the early seasons](https://www.timesofisrael.com/new-israeli-espionage-tv-series-tehran-tackles-shadow-war-with-iran/) describes the series’ Israeli origins and international attention.

## Tehran won an International Emmy

*Tehran* follows Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad agent who enters Iran under a false identity. Niv Sultan plays Tamar; Shaun Toub, Menashe Noy and Shervin Alenabi are also among the cast. The series was created by Moshe Zonder, Dana Eden and Maor Kohn, and directed by Daniel Syrkin. Apple announced its global distribution through Apple TV+ after its debut on Israeli broadcaster Kan 11. Its [renewal announcement](https://www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2021/01/apple-tv-renews-hit-international-thriller-tehran-for-season-two/) identifies the creators, principal premise and release platforms.

In November 2021, *Tehran* won the International Emmy for Drama Series. The [International Academy’s winners announcement](https://www.iemmys.tv/2021-international-emmy-awards-winners-announced/) records the award. The prize recognized a series produced in Israel and distributed to a worldwide audience by Apple. It gave the show a distinct form of recognition beyond streaming availability.

Both titles illustrate two routes for Israeli television to travel: a global platform can license an Israeli original, and international awards can bring additional attention to that original. They remain Israeli productions even when viewers encounter them through Netflix or Apple TV+.
