# Saudi air defenses intercept Houthi missile and two drones

Saudi air defenses intercepted two drones in the Riyadh region on Monday, Saudi-led coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said, according to a [JNS](https://www.jns.org/live/breaking-news#000001a1-9d38-dabc-affb-ffbe3aab0000) breaking-news report. Al-Maliki also said Saudi defenses intercepted a ballistic missile fired toward the kingdom’s southern region by the Houthi terrorist organization in Yemen.

## Capital airspace and the southern border, same day

The two drones were over the Riyadh region — the kingdom’s capital basin. The ballistic missile was aimed at the south, the Saudi belt that faces Yemen. Al-Maliki spoke for the coalition that has fought the Houthis in Yemen. His statement is an intercept tally: three aerial weapons, two theaters, all stopped. The coalition’s Arabic account posted that two drones were intercepted and destroyed in the Riyadh area.

Iran-backed Houthis have used missiles and drones to reach into Saudi Arabia. A ballistic shot at the south is a weapon class meant for cities and bases, not a border probe. Drones over Riyadh are a reach into the political center. Al-Maliki’s announcement is that Saudi air defenses caught both on the same Monday.
